Lighting Take 1.

For these first 2 images we used a dish light and pointed it at the wall next to where i was sitting, this created a softer lighting effect instead of it being so harsh and directed straight at my face. This was the most flattering lighting for me. We tried direct light on other girls and it suited some but not others. The one thing that i found when taking photos with lighting and a good lens is that the makeup doesn't show up as much as you think it would. So when we next have our practical lesson we are going to try using more makeup and see what lighting captured the colours best. We also didn't use a beauty lens for these photos which we are going to try using next week.

For the image on the left we kept the light in the same position however we positioned my body so that i was facing the light on the wall, this made my skin and the colours of the image a lot brighter, however if we were doing this again i would get my hair back off my face to see the real difference.

The image on the right was using the same light but it was pointed close to us on the wall, this really brightened up the image maybe almost too much, but this can be edited in post production. We also used a white light reflector in this image which is probably why it was a lot brighter.

We then moved to using a softbox light and we pointed it at the ceiling instead of on the model. Using a light reflector we managed to bounce the light off of it and onto my face creating a lot more light. On the left the image is very soft and low key lighting, whereas as you can see in the picture on the right the light is a lot brighter. The brighter image captures the makeup a lot better, you can see a lot more however it does wash out the face shape and shadows which i like a lot with the low key lighting.

I think going onto next week using the beauty lens and finding a light that is low key and soft but also captures the colours and shadows within the makeup will be our task. I think that for a first lighting test shoot this went really well and we all learnt a lot from it. Recognising the difference in brightness from using a light reflector and also the way in which the light is positioned can affect the image a lot.
